Acidic vs Alkaline

Could an imbalance of your pH, calcium and magnesium, or hormones be compromising your health? You bet it could! Health is a balancing act—with us now all experiencing COVID-19 as a global health threat—let’s address Acidic vs Alkaline and how it affects your body.

Like everything in life, it’s all about having the right balance, especially when it comes to the pH levels in our body. Our everyday lifestyle, as well as the environment we live in, can alter our pH so it’s important we check our pH levels regularly to make sure we’re in balance. Viruses love an acidic body!

What is pH?

If you are not familiar with pH, it’s the body’s balance of acidity to alkalinity, within a range of 0-14.

In an ideal world our pH should sit between 7.365 and 7.45, slightly alkaline. This is where the body functions at its best, but even the slightest things can alter our pH. What we eat is broken down into either acidic or alkaline, with a modern-day fast (or white) food diet more acidic (high in trans fats and refined sugars). However, the food itself doesn’t necessarily relate to this scale, for example lemons are an acidic fruit, but when consumed they have an alkalising effect on the body.

For convenience, we now have pH Testing Kits available online, with an easy to read pH scale. It’s important to pH test in the morning with your saliva or urine. From there you can work towards finding your balance.

An Acidic body

A body that functions in an acidic environment weakens the body’s ability to function at its peak and leads to many common health concerns for people such as inflammation, aching joints, carbohydrate and sugar cravings, not to mention viruses, love an acidic environment.

SIGNS YOU ARE TOO ACIDIC

  • Fatigue—feeling tired even though you are getting enough sleep
  • Constant headaches
  • Bloating and gas—feeling this even though you may not have eaten much
  • Being stressed out—stress levels boost our acidity
  • Brittle nails and hair
  • A diet low in fruit and veg

Learning to bring your body back into alkaline is easy through regular pH testing and the right food/supplementation.

Increasing your alkalinity if you are too acidic will help you bring back balance. Most leafy greens are super alkalising, however you may benefit by adding Green Barley into your daily routine.

Green Barley Grass is the most complete food for humans on the planet and is very alkalising for the body—full of natural state vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids. It’s easier for your body to recognise and use nutrients when in the food state. Green Barley is not only super alkalising for the body but it assists in oxygenating blood and cleaning the blood cells in the body.

Wake up with a Green Barley ritual

We recommend starting with a teaspoon of Green Barley powder daily and gradually increasing to two or more teaspoons over a two week period. Green Barley is great to take first thing in the morning—with your probiotics—and mid-afternoon when the afternoon slump hits! Mix it with water, juice or your fave green smoothie. Shop here

An Alkaline body

Dr. Otto Warburg was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1931 with his research suggesting cancer cells thrive in low oxygen and acidic conditions. As cancer progresses, the body becomes more acidic. Cancer can be linked to cells that have not properly been oxygenated and hydrated. Warburg discovered cancer cells cannot survive in an alkaline environment.

“NO DISEASE, INCLUDING CANCER, CAN EXIST IN AN ALKALINE ENVIRONMENT.”
DR OTTO WARBURG

While being too acidic can cause problems to your health, the same is also true by being too far alkaline. So staying balanced is the perfect way to improve your health.
