With Christmas fast approaching its time to start thinking about gifts for friends and family! I think homemade edible goodies make the best Christmas treats, full of thoughtfulness and creativity. Making your own edible pressies are a super easy and an inexpensive way to give the gift of love this Christmas! And who doesn’t love food gifts right?!?

Stuffed dates are my favourite Christmas treat! Dates are becoming increasingly common in Australia, available in most major supermarkets, health food stores and whole food cafes. They are a sweeter alternative to honey and maple syrup in raw cakes, smoothies, biscuits and other favourite vegan sweet treats. Dates are naturally sweet, have a lower GI than honey meaning they won’t spike up your blood sugar levels, are a solid form of iron as well as containing some potassium and fibre. Bare in mind even though dates hold some health benefits it’s important to note they are still a dried fruit so they do contain ‘fructose’, a natural sugar that should be limited in ones diet.

Dates can be stuffed with a plenty of ingredients or kept fairly simple! The most simplest gift to make and yet one of the most tastiest and appealing! There’s no recipe for this it’s basically carefully slice the date down the centre and remove the pit. Once removed stuff with a nut, think almond, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, a piece of good quality dark chocolate or even dipped into dark chocolate! Get wild and creative! All you have to do then is arrange them into a nice box and viola your gift is done!
